Riddler's Reward

Here is information about Jonathan Dickinson State Park that Marisa, Avery, Enrique, Zeke, Jasmine, and Jacob enjoyed while searching for the answer to the riddles. Click on the links and have fun exploring where they went.

  1. The official JDSP website: https://www.floridastateparks.org/parks-and-trails/jonathan-dickinson-state-park. Everything you need to know, right here!

  1. Trapper Nelson

You can boat or kayak to the Trapper Nelson site. The website says they are currently closed to boaters on Tuesdays, but check before you go! Taking a motorized boat there is much easier than kayaking; one time we kayaked all the way from Riverbend Park. https://discover.pbc.gov/parks/Locations/Riverbend.aspx, but it took hours! Trapper Nelson's is so interesting. Here's more information: https://www.hmdb.org/m.asp?m=106565

  2. The Elsa Kimbell Education Center

Starting out here gives you a great overview of the park. I love their displays and explanations. Everything the kids experienced (other than Enrique's run-in with a skunk!) is explained. They also have a movie theatre that runs a video on a loop. When I'm tired and need some AC and a rest, I like to sit in there and watch the movie! https://friendsofjdsp.org/pages/kimbell-education-center?srsltid=AU7gw4W20YoVdGjQLdPh9SwLz2q8XwgD_lrA0cGZVOXwokFpmYvxsbvH

  3. Bike riding! I love biking in JD! There are trails for the more serious mountain bikers (Albrey) and paved trails or easy bike trails for those who like a more chill ride (Jennifer). My favorite time is sunset; the way the light shines through the trees is simply glorious.

  1. Asimina tetramera - The Four-Petal Paw Paw

Dr. Ann Cox introduced me to this incredible plant, and JDSP is one of the few places you can find it. We found this bloom in April while out hiking. I was so excited! https://www.fnai.org/PDFs/FieldGuides/Asimina_tetramera.pdf

  1. The red-cockaded woodpecker is a threatened species that you can now find in JDSP. That's why Jasmine insisted she find one while they were camping. Here is a picture of one! Albrey took the photo through his binoculars. I think we need to buy a viewing scope that takes pictures (like the kids use in Book 6, Everglades Mystery.)

If you get to experience JDSP like the Kids of Coral Canal, send us an email at jenniferarrington@beachhousebusiness.com. We would love to hear all about it! Your parents can also message us on Instagram via  jenniferarrington_author!

ENJOY THE JOURNEY, ADVENTUROUS CHILD!
