Island Enigma
Welcome to Abaco, The Bahamas!
Join the kids of Coral Canal on their exciting Abaco adventures by exploring the links below.
1.This spot was called Hole in the Wall and used to be next to the Hole in the Wall Lighthouse from chapter 8. We took this picture in 2010. In 2012, Hurricane Sandy destroyed the portion of the rock that we are sitting on. You can read all about it here: https://rollingharbour.com/2012/11/03/from-hole-in-the-wall-to-gap-in-the-wall-hurricane-sandy-smashes-abaco-landmark/
2. Here is a picture of Hole in the Wall Lighthouse described in chapter 8. You can see how the pounding waves hit the rocks and generate such force yet the water is still crystal clear!
3. This fun blog describes getting to the lighthouse and explains why Mr. Lowe's car probably got stuck! https://www.abacoescape.com/HoleWall/HitW.html
4. In Chapter 5, Marisa shows her mom the BREEF website. You can explore it here and even adopt your own baby coral: https://breef.org/index.php/donate/adopt-a-coral/
5. In chapter 5, the kids of Coral Canal get to see a blue hole. Here's a picture of one from the air:
6. In chapter 4 and again in chapter 5 and 9, the children get to go snorkeling. Here are some of the underwater beauties they found.
Bahama Sea Star - these can be found in Jupiter, Florida as well!
A parrot fish
A Nassau grouper
An angel fish (one of my absolute favorites!)
There are so many amazing tropical fish. Here's an amazing site that lets you enjoy many many more! https://www.paultrammell.com/fish-and-coral-of-the-bahamas
6. If you want a fun shirt for your dad just like the one Mr. Lowe wore, you can search here: https://www.androsia.com/store/p68/Classic_Island_Shirt_.htmlÂ
7. If you want to try the ring toss game that the children enjoy in chapter 9, Amazon sells them ;) https://www.amazon.com/s?k=tiki+toss+game&crid=WNBOBTIVLSZR&sprefix=tiki+toss+game%2Caps%2C146&ref=nb_sb_noss_1
